French oil major, TotalEnergies, has expressed a strong interest in participating in Nigeria’s 2025 oil bid round scheduled to begin on 1st December this year.

This was disclosed on Thursday in a press release by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) seen by Bavijas.

TotalEnergies expressed their interest in participating in the forthcoming oil bid round during a courtesy visit to the top brass of the Commission.

During the visit, led by the President, TotalEnergies Exploration and Production, Mr. Nicolas Terraz, the firm lauded the NUPRC for the transparency and credibility during the 2024 mini-bid round.

“Drawing from the 2024 bid round, the 2025 edition would be positive and TotalEnergies is optimistic about the new bid round,” Terraz said.

He expressed confidence that the 2025 round would benefit from the Commission’s reform-driven processes and enhanced governance framework.

Speaking at the meeting, the chief Executive of NUPRC Gbenga Komolafe said the Commission is committed to a predictable regulatory environment and being not only a regulator but a strategic business enabler in line with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021.

Just last week, NUPRC announced that it will commence the 2025 oil licensing round on 1st December, 2025 in line with the Petroleum Industry Act.

TotalEnergies is a key player in Nigeria’s upstream and downstream petroleum sector.

Despite the firm’s planning to sell off its 12.5% stake in the Bonga oil field to Shell, it still has a considerable deepwater presence across key fields like the Egina, Akpo and Owowo..
