Tetracore Energy, a Nigerian‑owned gas distributor, has commissioned Ghana’s first compressed natural gas (CNG) facility in Tema, marking a major step in the country’s clean energy transition.
The $15m plant, unveiled on 26 January, has an initial capacity of 5.1 million standard cubic feet per day (mmcf/d) and can refuel up to 30 trucks daily. Tetracore says it plans to double capacity within nine months, scaling operations to 10 mmcf/d.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by senior government officials, including Ghana’s energy and green transition minister John Jinapor, representing President John Mahama.
The Tema project replicates Tetracore’s success in Nigeria, where its Atakobo CNG facility in Ogun State has expanded from 3.1 mmcf/d in 2024 to 7.64 mmcf/d earlier this month, supported by a partnership with Bill Gas.
Tetracore has positioned itself as a key gas player, supplying 120 mmcf/d to Nigerian industrial customers such as Dangote Cement, AYM Shafa, and Optimal Energy, while also fueling thousands of gas‑powered trucks at the Dangote Refinery.
The company recently received the “Indigenous Energy Excellence and Strategic Impact Award” from Nigeria House at the 2026 World Economic Summit in Davos, highlighting its role in advancing sustainable energy solutions across Nigeria.
