ShipAfrica, a leading ship technology and logistics company, has emerged as the title sponsor of the 2025 Ibom Open Golf Tournament, set to tee off on June 5 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

This marks the second consecutive year the company is serving as the tournament’s headline sponsor, showing its commitment to sports development and regional economic growth.

The two-day amateur golf event is already generating significant buzz, with over 300 golfers registering within the first 48 hours of the portal opening.

This rapid surge in participation indicates the tournament’s growing reputation as one of Africa’s premier golfing events.

Organized by the Ibom Golf and Country Club, this year’s tournament will be hosted across two prestigious venues: the iconic Ibom Golf Course and the newly introduced ARISE Golf Course.

Planning Committee Chairman Usenobong Akpabio noted the tournament’s potential to boost tourism and job creation, noting that over 300 locals will be employed as caddies during the event.

Captain of the Ibom Golf Club, Isua Archibong, emphasized the broader economic impact, stating that the influx of high-profile guests would further solidify Akwa Ibom’s status as a top lifestyle and tourism destination in West Africa.

The total prize pool for this year’s tournament stands at an impressive N150 million (~$94,600); a 200% increase from last year.

This demonstrates the event’s rapid growth and rising prestige.

Beyond its sports sponsorship, ShipAfrica continues to lead in the digital logistics space.

In 2024 alone, the company powered over 50,000 transactions and facilitated shipments worth over $2 million for SMEs, merchants, and enterprises across the continent.

According to its 2024 Industry and Impact Report, the U.S. accounted for 43.2% of all its shipments, followed by the UK and Canada, which collectively represented 37.2%.

As conversations around the Ibom Deep Seaport gain momentum following Governor Umo Eno’s recent moves, ShipAfrica is strategically seeding its footprint in the state’s emerging maritime market.

Alongside ShipAfrica, other key corporate sponsors include Hensek Engineering and Bulletin Construction.

Ibom Air has also pledged to award return tickets to the tournament’s top three overall winners, adding further prestige and incentive for participants.
